My coffee is not quite strong enough this morning. The kids are crying because I will not let them eat candy for breakfast, and the end of another month is upon us. This particular month brings with it so many obligations and commitments... holiday parties, school activities, extra church events, and too many Christmas knitting projects to count. Ugh... All I really want for Christmas is to curl up under a blanket enjoying a peppermint mocha in silence while binge watching "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life." But alas, the holiday tasks keep piling up, and somehow the dishes still need done daily.
So, how does one push through with all the necessary energy to reach the new year? How can you possibly survive this season that requires so much of you and your unending effort? How will you finish all that needs to be done?
One stitch at a time. One batch of cookies, one holiday movie, one party with the in laws at a time.
You see, this Christmas will come and go, and when you look back years from now the lens of time will soften the edges of your memories like it always does. The once vivid hassles and stress will fade into a glowing nostalgic vision of twinkling toddler eyes, Rudolph's nose, and endless drives on the hunt for Christmas lights... I promise.
For now, take a deep breath, have a second cup of coffee (you have my permission), and remember this season isn't about perfection. It's about the perfect baby boy born to save this world from the need of undying effort, striving, or aimless attempts at self righteousness. Only He provides the grace and majesty of Christmas... you just need to show up.
So, you can move forward with this Christmas just one stitch at a time...
