I drove by the church and circled the block last night just like I do every other day. It's been a year since the Lord called me to this place and its still for sale. As I circled the building I felt it, that same tug in my spirit: selah. What does it mean? Over the last year I believe I've come to know in a deeper sense, more than intellectual, that it is a rest. Selah doesn't stop at rest, but more than that its the rest that propels restoration. It's an ethic of personal, familial, and corporate sabbath.
Selah is a spiritual pause that says "I'm waiting on You, Lord, and I won't move until You command it!"
It's taking a stand by STANDING still, resting in the KNOWING of His purpose and plan, and TRUSTING Him to see this through to completion.
We spend whole lifetimes fretting and worrying, but what if your hopes and dreams really were safe in Him? What if every single wound and hurt in your heart was in the most capable of hands when you surrender it fully to Him? What if He truly was restoring to you and yours, to Akron, Ohio, what the locust have eaten?
What if this abandoned building were the place where an entire community could experience the rest and restoration of pausing to wait on Him?
Pray for me, Joseph, and our family in this time as we prepare our hearts for an answer. If you'd like to know more about the vision the Lord gave me a year ago, you can visit www.selahcenterakron.com. I can feel it in my bones, the time is near, and regardless of who owns 270 E Wilbeth Rd. I know that the Lord will restore the faith of His people in this place! So, we wait, but we do not wait in vain or in helplessness; our help, our rest, our selah lays in Him.
Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord;
Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications.
If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. My soul waits for the Lord More than those who watch for the morning— Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He shall redeem Israel From all his iniquities.
